Ford announced on July 8, 2022 that it was expanding its recall on its Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs from 39,000 to 66,221. Ford initially recalled the SUVs in May 2021 and recommended that consumers park the vehicles outside of homes and other structures. Consumers have reported that the vehicles catch fire while driving or after they are parked and the engine is off. Ford claims the root cause is an electrical short in the circuit board within the battery junction box which causes the circuit board to melt or catch fire. Ford has claims Expeditions and Navigators manufactured between July 27, 2020 to August 31, 2021 are within the range of affected vehicles.
